I got a call from a concerned citizen that there was a medium-size dog that was living outside on a chain with no proper shelter, or access to food or water. If that was not bad enough, it just happened to be during the most extreme freezing temperatures we have ever had in the winter on Vancouver Island, in a very long time. It was -19 with wind chill at the time, but was getting up to -22 with windchill overnight. There is no doubt that -20 temperatures could kill a human or an animal left outside in improper conditions. Although other parts of Canada can get much colder by temperature, most of that temperature is in a dry cold, and on the west coast of Canada we have a wet cold. Which makes -20 with windchill feel like -40 or colder. We at @raincoastdogrescue were shocked that the dog survived through the first night of the extreme cold without any shelter, and we knew that the dog may not survive another night if we do not get to her immediately.
As the team arrived, we were all quite nervous, and prayed we were able to negotiate her release. After some back-and-forth, we were able to reach an agreement for us to be able to take her. We put her in the vehicle, and got out of there as soon as we could. We were so incredibly happy we were able to save this girls life, and just in the nick of time! She has been decompressing and settling in at her loving foster home with one of our team members, since the day we rescued her.
Her name is Daisy, and she is the sweetest little, mixed breed, low rider.
We will keep everybody updated on her progress, and she starts her new life of love, care, and compassion.
Thank you for all your loving support! 🩷🐾
